About SmartScale
Built on operations, not theory.
Most process advice comes from people who have read about operations. This comes from running them, badly at first, then well, for a business where a missed handover meant a customer with no delivery.
The background
Six years. Over 700 customers. One role.
Before SmartScale, I spent six years in one role managing over 700 customers for a family logistics business across Ireland. Accounts, sales, delivery scheduling, routes, drivers, credit control, complaints. The full width of it, on the same day, every day.
That is a particular kind of education. You learn quickly that a schedule does not care about your intentions, and that the difference between a good week and a bad one is almost never strategy. It is whether the twenty small handoffs between an order coming in and an invoice going out actually hold.
You also learn what nobody writes down. Real operations are held together by workarounds. Somebody keeps a second spreadsheet because the main system does not do the thing they need. Somebody rings ahead because the notification never arrives. Somebody has memorised which customers need special handling because the record has nowhere to put it.
People are quietly compensating for a system that does not fit, and they have stopped mentioning it, because it has always been that way. Finding those workarounds is the job. Everything else follows from it.
How we work
Four principles, and they are not negotiable
These exist because breaking them is how process projects fail, expensively and slowly.
Observe before advising
Nothing gets recommended until we have watched the work happen. The process document is not the process.
Count the hours
Every finding carries a number. If we cannot say what it costs you per week, it does not go on the list.
Cheapest fix first
A change in sequence or ownership beats a software purchase every time it will do the job. Tools are the last resort, not the first move.
Hand it over properly
You should be able to run and change what we build without us. Documented, explained, yours.
Straight answers
What SmartScale is not
Worth saying plainly, so you do not spend a call finding out.
Not a software reseller
We do not take commission from any tool vendor. If the answer is a tool, we will tell you which and what it costs to run. If it is not, we will tell you that instead, which is more often the case.
Not a retainer machine
The audit is a standalone piece of work with a fixed price. You can implement the findings yourself, hand them to your own team, or bring us back. All three are fine outcomes.
Not an enterprise consultancy
No steering committees, no six week discovery phase, no deck full of maturity models. Small and medium Irish businesses, practical work, numbers attached.
